Rosa Parks

Buses were desegregated in Montgomery, Alabama on this day in 1956. More than a year earlier, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat at the front of the "colored section" of a bus to a white passenger, prompting her arrest. In response, the Montgomery black community launched a bus boycott, which led to the desegregation of the bus system.
