Upton Sinclair is considered the father of journalistic muckraking. The Pulitzer Prize author wrote over ninety books, including his 1906 novel The Jungle, which caused a public uproar over the meat packing industry and led to the passage of the Pure Food and Drug Act. His writing prompted Teddy Roosevelt to coin the term "muckraker".
