Classical liberalism

Classical liberalism is by definition almost the complete opposite of contemporary American liberalism. Classical liberal doctrine evolved during The Age of Enlightenment of the 17th and 18th centuries. It stressed individual freedom, free markets, and limited government. The "classical" prefix was added later to distinguish this original form of liberalism from the modern social liberalism.
