The Clean Air Act of 1970

The Clean Air Act of 1970 established comprehensive federal and state regulations to limit emissions and signaled a major shift in the U.S. government's role in air pollution control. Major amendments were added to the landmark act in 1977 and 1990. The Act was the first major environmental law in the U.S. to include a provision for citizen suits.
